Snoopy Rock

Snoopy is one of the most beloved rock formations in Sedona. Easily visible from much of Uptown Sedona, the formation is named after the famous comic strip character. The route to reach the top is a social trail with good views of Sedona. Getting all the way up onto Snoopy's belly at the end of the hike is moderately difficult.

Snoopy Rock

Starting from the parking area on Sombart Lane you will not be able to see Snoopy Rock from the trailhead. Take the short connector trail uphill (shown below) entering the Munds Mountain Wilderness Area.

The first signed trail junction is where the connector trail joins the Marg's Draw Trail. If you were to go left, eventually you would reach Schnebly Hill Road. If you were to go right, you would eventually reach the Broken Arrow trailhead. Instead, you want to go straight onto the obvious social trail straight ahead.

Now you will be able to see Snoopy Rock on the left side of the trail at end of the cliffs (shown at the top of this page). There is a braided network of trails here, all headed to a break in the cliffs that will provide a gentle switchback to the top.
If you can stay on the main trail you'll have a much easier time of it. Simply take the easiest slope and use your route finding skills. If you've chosen the correct route you should be on an obvious social trail (shown below) as you start uphill.

Now the views across Marg's Pocket (shown below) will start to become more dramatic as you gain elevation.

It's not a difficult climb, but the final approach (shown below) is a little steep, and it is necessary to use your hands in a class 2 scramble.

From the top there is a view of Uptown Sedona, Oak Creek Canyon and Thunder Mountain. This amazing spot is a little like the top of Cathedral Rock, but seldom visited in comparison, so kick back and stay awhile.

Enjoy having Snoopy Rock all to yourself!
