Stairway to Heaven

A social trail in the Coconino National Forest, the route we call Stairway to Heaven offers a challenging uphill climb that is rewarded with one of our Top 10 views in Sedona (shown below) because there is spectacular combination of Oak Creek Canyon and the San Francisco Peaks near Flagstaff. These mountains are capped with snow much of the year.

Looking the other way at the top of the Stairway there is a rarely photographed view of Bell Rock and Courthouse Butte (shown below).

FINDING THE TRAILHEAD

 From the Courthouse Vista parking area (at GPS 34.80592 -111.76645) on Hwy 179, follow the signs the signs for Courthouse Loop. At 1.2 miles you will be approaching a point that juts out from Munds Mountain. Look for a social trail that continues straight ahead as the Courthouse Loop starts to turn east.
