Terrace Ruin

Accessed by a well established social trail branching off the official Boynton Canyon trail, the Terrace Ruin is a beautiful four room complex perched high on ledge. Three of the rooms are easy to reach, but one sits by itself on a separate ledge (shown below) and requires a Class 4 scramble to reach it.

Terrace Ruin is one of many Sinagua cliff dwellings in Boynton Canyon, and one of the few that can actually be seen from the system trail (shown below), though it is hidden enough that most people never see it. Those who find their way up are in for a special treat. Not only is the ruin photogenic, but the view behind it would be worth the short climb even if there were no archaeological site.

FINDING THE TRAILHEAD

Start on the system trail that goes into Boynton Canyon. This trail begins at the parking area on Boynton Canyon Rd (GPS 34.90741  -111.84864). Approximately 1.4 miles from the parking area (.25 miles beyond the Enchantment Resort) look for a social trail breaking to the right.

GET THE GPS TRACK FOR EVERY TRAIL IN SEDONA INCLUDED WHEN YOU PURCHASE THE WANDERER"S GUIDE!

If you choose the right branch this social trail is easy to follow through the brush and it takes a relatively gentle slope to reach the ruins. It is directly across from a wide spot in the system trail that marks the beginning of a social trail on the left that goes up to the Women's Village.
