Falcon Ridge

Falcon Ridge is a seldom visited photo location in the Coconino National Forest. It be accessed via an established social trail that breaks north off the Jim Thompson trail, or via a social trail that wraps around The Fin. We consider to be a Top 20 location for photographers. The only reason it is seldom visited is because not very many people know about it... yet.
A hiker enjoys the view from the Falcon's Nest (author's name)

The main attraction on this route is a visit to the Falcon's Nest (shown above). This amazing perch is connected to the main ridge by a bridge of rock that is only a few feet wide, so there is an eye-popping 360 degree view. This photo was made in the early morning. There is more dramatic lighting late in the afternoon, when the shear cliffs at the base of Wilson Mountain are turned deeper red by the setting sun. I've only been to this location twice, and hope to see some of the incredible photographs that will be captured here.

FINDING THE TRAILHEAD

The best place to park is at the Jim Thompson Trailhead, located at the end of Jordan Road in Uptown Sedona. A Red Rock Pass or America the Beautiful Pass is required to park here. NOTE: arrive early!
